KATANA BY GODAI TADAYOSHI
This is an outstanding sword in every respect. It is by the fifth generation Hizen Tadayoshi. The full signature reads Hizen (no) Kuni Omi (no) Kami Tadayoshi. The fifth generation Tadayoshi began working around 1716 and he died in 1775. He received the Omi no Kami title in 1750 so this swod was made during his peak years. For more informaiton about this smith, please refer to the following link, Godai Tadayoshi.
This is a very unusual katana in a couple of respects. First, it is unusually long measuring 29 1/2 inches. It is ubu. The other unusual aspect of this sword is that the hamon is done in an outstandingly beautiful choji-gunome temper rather than the usual hoso-suguba one finds most often on Hizen blades. The hada is a vivid "Hizen hada" of tight itame that is called Konuku Hada.
This sword comes with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers which attest to its quality and validity as an important sword. It is in fresh Japanese polish and a new shirasaya with a gilt gold habaki.
PRICE: $17,750.00
