KOZUKA BY GOTO KOUJOU

This is a beautiful kozuka by the fourth mainline master of the Goto, Koujou. He was born in 1529 and he died in 1620. His father, Joushin, was killed in battle when he was 33 years old. He had been a student of his father, but he also studied in the style and technique of his great grandfather Goto Yujo. He went to Kyushu and worked there until he was 45 years old. He returned to Kyoto at the request of Toyotomi Hideyoshi who awarded him the post of supervisor of the gold coin mint and granted him a stipend of 250 koku. He worked with his son, Tokujo. In 1617 he was invited to the Imperial Palace and was granted the title of Hougen for his service. His work is of very high quality and this kozuka shows that skill. The shakudo is very dark and rich. There is a simple carving of a kiji bird (pheasant) on a nanako backgound. It shows elegance and strength.

This kozuka comes with NBTHK hozon papers attesting to its authenticity and quality.

PRICE: $2,250.00
