This is a tsuba from the Kuwabara collection. Mr. Kuwabara Yojiro assembled this collection in Japan from 1900 to around 1940. He built the collection upon the premise that he wanted to collect fine examples of each of the schools of tsuba. He is also an expert of renown for his collection of fine soft metal kodugo especially fuchi and kashira. He has published several books on on kodugo and was well respected in Japan.

This is an extremely large tsuba of the Echizen Kinai school. It is signed Echizen Jyu Kinai. This is probably the work of the 2nd or 3rd generation smith by this name. It is large and thick measuring 3 9/16 inches by 3 1/2 inches. It has a floral design that is very well carved. A great example for any collection.
