FANTASTIC KATANA BY SATSUMA MASAYOSHI

This is a truly outstanding katana by the Satsuma smith, Masayoshi. He is of the Masachika Mon and his family name is Ijichi. He was the third generation smith to sign with these kanji characters for Masayoshi. In kansei Gannen (1789) he was given the title of " Hoki no Kami" and he changed his name to Masayuki. This sword is signed in 1765 when he was still using his Masayoshi name. His works extend to Bunka Juyonen (1817) and he died at the age of 87 in Bunsei Ninen (1819).He was a famous author and educator of swordsmithing. He is rated as a Jo-Jo saku smith by Fujishiro.

This katana is in wonderful condition with no problems what-so-ever. It has a cutting edge of 26 5/8 inches or 67.7 cm. This sword is typical of his works in that the body of the sword is wide and the kissaki is long. The hada is a beautiful itame. The hamon is a uniform gunome togari with ara-nie and there is also ji-nie, especially in the boshi.

This sword is in top quality polish and comes in a shirasaya with a gold wrapped habaki. It also comes with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers attesting to its authenticity and quality.
