This is an interesting tanto tsuba. It is made of brass that has been gilded with gold. The mimi is silver plated and most of the silver appears to have been rubbed off through a great amount of wear. The face and reverse of the tsuba consist of a well carved design of flowers and insects. This tsuba is a bit of a mystery to me. It could be quite old and has an almost Ezo feeling to it. It came to me at a very reasonable price so I am selling it accordingly. It could be a great find or it could be just another small brass tsuba. I have not attempted to paper it so I am not really sure of the school to which it belongs.
