KATANA BY SHODAI BITCHU YASUHIRO
This is a beautiful katana by the first generation Bitchu Yasuhiro. The full signature reads, Bitchu (no) Kami Tachibana Yasuhiro. The ura of the nakago has a chrysanthemum (kiku) and leaves well carved. The first generation was known to put this kiku on the ura while the later generations when they carved one on the tang, put it on the omote above their signature. The first generation Yasuhiro is the highest rated of all the smiths in this lineage. He worked around the Kanbun era or 1661. This blade has his signature large billowing choji hamon. Unfortunately, it does not photograph well. You will be surprised at the beauty of this hamon when you see this blade in person. The hada is a tight ko-itame. The cutting edge of this sword is 24 9/16 inches or 62.4 cm.
The mountings for this sword are very elegant. The saya has been fully restored and is in excellent condition. The tsuba is of the Choshu school and is very well carved. The tsuka has been custom fitted to this sword and is of excellent quality. The fuchi and kashira are of shakudo with a cross-hatch design. The menuki ar shakudo and appear to be ko-Mino.
This sword comes in a new shirasaya with a sayagaki by Tanobe Sensei of the NBTHK. The sword also has a very nice double gold foil habaki. Accompanying this sword are Tokubetsu Hozon papers which attest to the validity of the signature and the quality and condition of the blade.
PRICE: $ 13,500.00
