RARE SATSUMA TSUBA
This is a very unusual Satsuma tsuba. It is made of tightly forged iron. This is the type of tsuba used by the Jigen Ryu School of swordsmanship in Satsuma during the rebellion period of 1877. If you look very closely, you will see that it once had a kozuka ana which has been plugged with iron. This tsuba is 7.5 cm by 6.5 cm and is the size that the proud Samurai of the Satsuma clan felt that a swordsman could not "hide behind". All in all, an interesting piece of history.
