MENUKI BY NAKAGAWA ISSHO
Issho was born in Tsuyama in Mimasaka Province on March 8, 1829. He later moved to Kyoto, and in 1851 he moved to Edo. He died on April 6, 1876. He succeeded his father, Nakagawa Katsutsugu as the head of the Nakagawa line of artists. At the age of 21, he became the student of Goto Ichijo. He was a retainer of the Mori Daimyo family at Tsuyama in 1867. The style of Goto Ichijo can be seen in his work. It is my understanding that menuki by him are rare.
This pair of menuki are made of solid gold with water, water fowl, and water plants done in gold, silver, shakudo, and copper. They measure 4 cm by .5 cm and are much more beautiful than the scans show.
PRICE: $2,250.00
