KOSHIRAE

MOUNTED MUMEI KATANA

This is a nicely mounted Koto katana from the 1500's or before. It is unsigned, but it looks to be to be of the Enju school. It is a long sword measuring 73 cm or 28 3/4 inches. This sword is in fair polish with some old scuff marks but no active rust, pits or problems. There are a few areas where it is slightly tired due to its age and number of polishes. It has a narrow suguha temperline and there is a lot of shirake utsuri in the ji.

The koshirae is complete and very nice. The saya is lacquered black with flecks of abalone shell. There are a few old repairs and dents but nothing bad. The tsuka is well wrapped and in excellent condition. The fuchi is iron with a carved design of waves and birds.and the kashira is shakudo nanako with a beautiful horse done in high relief of shakudo and gold. The menuki are shakudo horses. The tsuba is iron done in the Kaneiye type design of a landscape of houses, mountains, waterfalls, etc. The kojiri (slightly loose) is large and of iron. It is Higo style with dragons and clouds.

This sword is in the condition that I found it when I bought it from the grandson of the soldier who broght it back from Japan at the end of WWll. It would make a great iai sword or would be a great first sword for a new collector. It is priced to move.

PRICE: $2,850.00
