









A NICE SUIT OF EDO PERIOD ARMOR
This is a fine suit of armor from the Mid-Edo period ( 18th Century). The helmet bowl is comprised of 12 plates of iron that have been welded together and lacquered dark brown to resemble russet iron. This is a bowl that is in beautiful condition. The mabezashi (visor) supports a very fine maedate in the shape of a the sun. The shikoro has five lames of iron that have been lacquered en-suite with the suit. The top lame turns back into two large fuki-gaeshi that have a large family mon in the shape of a war fan. The hanbo and throat guard are made of matching lames that have a blue ito.
The Do and gessan are in excellent condition and completely matching the balance of the armor. The sode are large made up of seven lames that are matching the shikoro. In fact all of the parts of the body armor are matching. The kote (arm protectors) are comprised of chain mail and lacquered iron pieces. The haidate (thigh protectors are in excellent condition with the original cloth backing matching that of the sode. This is one of the signs you look for to determine if the overall suit of armor is, indeed, a matched set as this one is. The suneate are made of lacquered iron plates that are connected with chain mail. This is a very nice suit of armor that comes with its old armor box that has wonderful iron fittings and a hole through the top for the carrying pole.. This suit is being offered at a very reasonable price for a complete suit of this quality.
