MUMEI KATANA IN GENDAI MOUNTS

This is a very nice and clean mumei katana mounted in Gendai koshirae. This katana is probably late koto or early shinto (early 17th century). It has been shortened and lost its original tang with the makers signature. The cutting edge of this katana is 70 cm. or a little over 27 1/2 inches. The hamon is a flowing notare with nice activities. The hada is a tight ko-itame which is very beautiful. This blade is in good polish with no flaws.

The koshirae is gendai except for the tsuba which appears to be a mid-Edo Owari tsuba. The fuchi and kashira ware of iron and the menuki are gold washed dragons. This would be an excellent sword for a new collector or for the practice of iai.
