WAKIZASHI BY AKI TERUHIRO
This is an unsigned wakizashi by the Aki smith Teruhiro. The attribution by the NBTHK in Japan is to Harima (no) Kami Teruhiro. There was a smith by this name who worked around 1624 at the beginning of the Edo Era. This is a very nice hira zukuri wakizashi with a cutting edge of 36.6 cm or 14 7/16 inches. It has futatsu-hi horimono on one side and a bo-hi with a soe-hi on the other. The amount of wear on the horimono is another indication of the age of this sword. The hamon is a wavy notare and the hada is a beautiful itame with areas of mokume.
This blade is in an old but serviceable polish and can be enjoyed as is. There are a few areas os slight rubbing, but no chips, openings, ware or active rust. It comes with NBTHK Hozon papers, a sliver wrapped habaki, and in an old shirasaya. This is an excellent blade for the beginning collector to study and enjoy.
