YARI BY KUNISHIGE
This is a jumonji (or magari) yari. It is in full polish in a new shirasaya. It is signed Yamashiro (no) Kami Fujiwara Kunishige. There were a number of generations of smiths from Yamashiro show signed this way. Most worked in the early to middle 1700's and they made both yari and swords. This yari measures 8 1/4 inches or 21 cm by 5 3/8 inches or 13.8 cm. This is an excellent example of a yari of this type. To polish a yari of this shape and to make a shirsaya for it cost pretty close to the asking price for this piece.
