This is a large tachi style tsuba of the Akasaka school.  It is signed by its maker, Tadatoki.  It was awarded NBTHK Hozon papers that attribute it to the ninth generation master of this line of tsuba makers.  This Tadatoki worked around 1850.  It is a very well executed tsuba with a rich dark iron plate that is carved with large yanone (arrowheads).  There are three on the obverse and two on the reverse.  It is in excellent condition and very pleasing.  It measures 8.6 cm or 3.375 inches by 8.0 cm or 3.2 inches.
