The katana is in wonderful condition. It is slightly machi okuri with two mekugi ana and it still measures an impressive 29 7/8 inches of cutting edge. It is in new Japanese polish and showcases all the finest attributes of this famous smith. The hamon is a wide notare-midare. There are profuse nie in the habuchi and in the ji. There is kinsuji and sunagashi throughout. It is dated in the ninth year of Kanbun or 1669.

The wakizashi is a perfect match for the katana. It is also dated in the ninth year of Kanbun (1669). It is also in perfect polish with no flaws. The hamon is a wide notare midare with all the fine characteristics that are contained in the katana repeated on this blade. It is a wide and strong blade measuring 18 1/2 inches in cutting edge and a width at the hamachi of 1 3/8 inches.

Both of these blades come in shirasaya with sayagaki by Tanobe Sensei of the NBTHK. They were both awarded Tokubetsu Hozon papers.

KOSHIRAE

The koshirae for this daisho is something to behold. The tsuka are both wrapped in the "string wrap style" in brown ito. The daisho menuki are gold and shakudo dragons that have been awarded Tokubetsu Kitcho papers by the NBTHK. The matched set of daisho fuchi and kashira are Goto school shakudo nanako and gold dragons of exceptional quality.

The daisho tsuba set are likewise done in shakudo and gold. They have golden dragons swimming in and out of shakudo waves. The rim is a golden nanako. Both tsuba are signed by their maker. The signature looks to read Mitsukage. They appear to be of the Goto school. The sayas are beautifull lacquered in black in a stripped pattern. They are in perfect condition.

Completing this koshirae in a spectacular set of kozuka and kogai that are papered to the Yanagawa school. The background is shakudo nanako and the design is a finely carved and highly raised golden dragon on each piece. These are works of art in themselves.

If you are looking for a complete collection in two pieces, this is it. You won't find better Shinto daisho of swords and to have them come together with a set of daisho koshirae this fine is truly exceptional.
