This is a large and intricately carved iron tsuba of the Kyo-sukashi school made during the Edo period. It measures 3 1/8 inches by 3 inches or 7.7 cm by 7.6 cm. It is delicately and intricately carved in a very attractive geometric design. It has a lovely dark patina with no rust or pitting. There are no losses to any of the thinly carved “ribs” that make up the interior design. It is wonderful example of the works of this school. This tsuba comes with papers from the Fittings museum that were issued in 2001verifying the school and period of this tsuba.
