This is a great tsuba from the Kaneiye school. The iron plate is well worked and carved with two sailing ships on the upper part of the obverse nad one on the reverse in the same relative position. The bottom of both sides is carved in waves with gold pinpoints of froth on the waves. There is adesign cut into the lower part of the tsuba that goes completely through the tsuba. The interior edges of this design are angled into a very impressive shape. This tsuba has a wonderful feel and balance to it. It measures 8.1 cm by 7.8 cm or 3 3/16 inches by 3 1/16 inches.
