This is a very beautiful and large tsuba of the Kaga Kinko school. It measures 3 3/16 inches or 8.1 cm round. The plate is a very rich shakudo that is covered in very fine nanako. The fineness of the nanako almost gives the tsuba a wet feeling. At the top and the bottom of the obverse are two Ho birds done in shakudo and gold with their wings spread and their long feathered golden tails forming the golden mimi (rim) of the tsuba. The reverse has one Ho bird at the top of the tsuba making a similar design with its tail feathers. This is a very well made tsuba. It comes with NBTHK Hozon papers attesting to the attribution and quality of the piece and it is in a wooden box.
