This is a beautifully executed kozuka made in the Edo period by an artist of the Yoshioka school. It measures 9.65 cm or slightly more than 3 ¾ inches by 0.42 cm or about 9/16 inches. The front of the plate is shakudo nanako with the nanako being extremely fine and well done. A shakudo axe is rendered very realistically on the obverse together with a golden coin which is done equally well. The reverse is a combination of a smooth shakudo plate joined by a gold plate on a diagonal plane. The whole piece has a feeling of grace and elegance and is in superb condition.
This kozuka comes with NBTHK Tokubetsu kodogu papers attributing this kozuka to the Yoshioka school and it is contained in a custom made fitted wooden box.
