People who know me, know that I am attracted to the rare and unusual. This waribashi kogai certainly fits that description. A waribashi kogai is a kogai that consists of two pieces that form chop sticks when separate or when the pieces are together it can be used for its intended purposes. When the halves are together it resembles a standard kogai and can be used as such. What makes this one truly unusual is the design of the manner in which the two pieces are joined. Usually the entire piece is split lengthwise with small pins along its length to hold the two halves together. You will note from the photos above that this one is designed quite differently and as a result the joining pins are larger and much more effective. Overall the kogai is made of copper and silver with two shakudo rain hats on the obverse. As stated, this is an unusual and very well made piece.
