This is a rare five volume hardbound set of books in English exclusively covering Japanese Arrowheads. In the past, arrowheads were referred to as Yajiri ; but in modern times, they are called Yanone .
This set of five hardbound volumes was compiled by John Pflueger and privately published in 1982 containing a total of over 1,250 pages. Each volume is 8.5 inches by 11 inches and are in excellent condition, with no damage to the pages or the binding.
Each volume covers different shapes of arrowheads and includes dimensional information, any translations, details of the shapes and time periods, etc. These books contain more information than any other book in English and include many unusual shapes from various collections, past and present.
Many of the Yanone found today in the United States are in this book. A few example pages of the books are shown below.
Included is an original letter of appraisal addressed to Mr. J. P. Pflueger from The Japan Sword Co, LTD dated 7 August, 1956. This letter was an appraisal of 18 arrowheads together with a few additional notes on other arrowheads. This letter suggests that this particular set of books belonged to the author.
The books breakdown as follows:
Volume 1: 271 pages, Intro, descriptions, shapes include pointed, chisel, willow leaf.
Volume 2: 180 pages, Intro to Vol 2, shapes include barbed, forked, triple pointed, compound.
Volume 3: 383 pages, Intro to Vol 3, shapes include display shapes for pointed, willow leaf, barbed, forked and triple pointed.
Volume 4: 251 pages, Intro to Vol 4, training arrowheads, votive arrowheads (presentation), whistling, and related archery items.
Volume 5: 163 pages, Intro to Vol 5, fabrication, ornamentation, pierced, complex, fabricating tools, smiths.
This is indeed a rare opportunity to own the definitive five volume set of books about Yanone in ENGLISH. Do not miss out on this opportunity as there will not likely be another for a very long time if ever.
