This is a lovely Shinchû 真鍮 (brass) tsuba. It measures 6.9 cm or 2.7 inches by 6.3 cm or 2.5 inches. The design is that of four clam shells with two facing the obverse and two facing the reverse. Within the shells are grape leaves and grapes, bamboo, cherry blossoms, and water plants all done in gold, silver, and shakudo. They designs are very delicate and well executed. This tsuba is from the Akita Shoami school and comes with NBTHK Hozon papers attesting to the quality of the tsuba and the accuracy of the attribution.
